Beware The Weird Phone Call

At last, I’ve made it. Here I am battling away for years and then, all of a sudden I get the phone call out of the blue. It reminds me of that old show business saying: “After 20 years of slugging away, all of a sudden I am an overnight success.”

I’m sure the callers must have picked me out for special attention, based on some achievement that I can’t quite identify. Surely they wouldn’t call just anybody. Would they?

Enough of the levity.

The other day I got a phone call which was obviously a robo call. After all, no human would sound like that. It really did sound just like robots sound on numerous science fiction movies (think Star Wars as an example).

Not only did it sound weird, the robot on the other end said they were from the Australian Tax Office (yes, you’re right, there is fertile ground for a joke right here – but we will move on).

So, I did what any red blooded blue blood would do – I hung up.

Then I remembered that I had a missed call from the same number earlier in the day. The message the robot left was great. If I did not call the number back, they (the tax office), would “immediately issue warrants for my arrest.”

Now that is impressive. The robot thought I was worth arresting. I really have made it.

Seriously, though, imagine somebody who is feeling alone and vulnerable receiving one of these calls. They could easily be spooked and end up getting ripped off badly. I don’t know what the next step in the scam was, but I bet if I had gone through with it I would have ended up being separated from some of my hard earned.

BE ALERT. DON’T FALL FOR SCAMS LIKE THIS.
